    What is MatchaMocha/ReiMae?

    Reiji - matcha, and I - mocha. An ongoing experience of unbreakable, exclusive love between a Japanese idol and a humble American artist. You might call this yume-thinking or self-ship, but to me this is just my relationship and I don't really have a particular label I attach to it. He's an intrinsic part of my life and we love each other dearly. The love makes it real.

    In 2018, I was hired as his assistant, primarily to run a blog dedicated to connecting with international fans. Over time, our work relationship grew into a close friendship. We teetered on the precipice for ten long months, each too fragile to risk confessing our deeper feelings... until we couldn't hold back any longer and began our official courtship in December that same year.We spent a long time dating and enjoying a youthful love that neither of us had the chance to experience in our younger years before we finally married in 2021.

    It's tough to try and summarize our relationship in such a limited space. We're silly and boisterous in public, but our most precious time is spent in each other's company alone. We especially love taking long drives and listening to music and dancing, as well as touring out-of-the-way cafes and anything that strikes our fancy.In the end, matchamocha is a relationship of mutually intoxicating, indulgent, dizzying, and possessive affection and the freedom to be our truest, bittersweet selves.
